The agreement allows each airline to sell seats on the flights of others. “Currently, Turkish Airlines operates a daily flight on the Delhi-Istanbul and Mumbai-Istanbul routes, while IndiGo operates a daily flight on the Delhi-Istanbul route and plans to add a second frequency from August 2022,” the statement said.

This codeshare agreement between the two airlines will give customers “the convenience of purchasing connecting flights with one reservation and a seamless ticketing, check-in, boarding and baggage screening experience throughout their journey.”

Scheduled operations gradually resumed with the maiden flight on June 29, 2022.

The codeshare is considered a bilateral free flow codeshare, with both airlines placing their code on each other’s flights. For example, according to the codeshare on the Turkish Airlines website, a passenger can book a single ticket to travel from Istanbul to Bengaluru. While Istanbul-Mumbai leg is operated on Turkish flight, Mumbai-Bengaluru flight is operated on IndiGo flight.

Such a passenger will receive his/her checked baggage directly at Bengaluru Airport as he or she is traveling on a single ticket due to the codeshare agreement.

The agreement will allow Turkish Airlines and India’s largest airline to offer customers more flexibility of choice on the Istanbul-India route.

IndiGo had announced a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines in December 2018, but it has been suspended from March 23, 2020 due to the suspension of scheduled international flights due to the coronavirus pandemic. India resumed scheduled international flights on March 27 this year.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, already has codeshare agreements with Qatar Airways, American Airlines and Air France-KLM airlines.
