Not yet recovered, Ng Tze Yong withdrew from 2022 Indonesia Masters

Ligaosport.com –

Badminton News: Men’s singles badminton player Ng Tze Yong will miss the Indonesia Masters Tournament June 7-12 in Jakarta to fully concentrate on training.

The 22-year-old has had a busy schedule since late March with little time in between for training.

Ng Tze Yong has competed at the Swiss Open, Korea Open, Asian Championships in Manila, Thomas Cup Championships in Bangkok and Thailand Open 2022.

Sole coaching director Wong Choong Hann now wants the youngster to rest and prepare well for the Malaysian Masters from July 5-10.

“We decided to withdraw him from the Indonesia Masters to give him time to recover and prepare for the tournament in Malaysia,” said Choong Hann.

“He admits he needs more time to correct the weaknesses in his game.”

Ng Tze Yong, who is currently ranked 48th in the world, may not qualify for the Malaysia Open (June 28-July 3) which is one tier higher than the Malaysia Masters.

Meanwhile, Choong Hann asked for patience after the 22-year-old fell after the Asian Tag Team Championships in February.

Tze Yong hasn’t made it past the quarterfinals of any tournament since winning the Tag Team Championship. He was also part of the Thomas Cup squad which suffered a shock defeat against India.

“He needs time to grow and reach higher levels. We cannot expect results overnight. Even Lee Zii Jia didn’t fire on all cylinders at Tze Yong’s age. He also needed time to become the player he is today,” said Choong Hann.

Choong Hann also pointed out that Tze Yong isn’t very exposed to high-level opponents.

“Last year he mostly played in low-level tournaments like the International Challenges. Even when we won the Asian Team Championship this year, he only faced players who came because of other countries had chosen to send their second player,” he said.

“He has to play more against world-class players to be himself. And of course he has to get stronger physically,” Choong Hann explained.

A good home show can be the perfect tonic for a player who promises to rise in rank.
