Kia sold 22,622 vehicles in India last month in its biggest monthly sales.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — South Korean automobile manufacturer KIA Corp. said its vehicle sales last month jumped 18% in India on rising demand for minivan models.
Kia sells 22,622 vehicles in India last month, marking the highest monthly revenue since entering emerging markets in August 2019, according to company sales data, cited by YonhapWednesday (04/06/2022).
This result was helped by the increase in sales of Carens minivans. Carens sales jumped to 7,008 units in March from 5,109 units in February and 575 units in January, the data showed. Kia has a manufacturing capacity of 300,000 units a year in India and sells the Seltos subcompact SUV, Sonet compact SUV and Carnival minivan.
The maker of the K5 sedan and Sorento SUV aims to sell 243,000 cars in India this year, up 34% from 182,000 units sold last year. The company has eight domestic factories in Korea and seven overseas factories, namely three in China and one in the United States, Slovakia, Mexico and India. Their overall capacity is 3.84 million units.
By 2022, Kia aims to sell 3.15 million vehicles worldwide, up 13% from its sales of 2.78 million last year. From January to March, sales fell 0.7% to 685,358 units from 689,990 units in the same period last year.
