India asks Twitter to comply with IT law

Jakarta (ANTARA) – India has asked Twitter to comply with the new Information Technology Act (IT Act) or face “undesirable consequences”.

Reuters obtained a copy of a letter from India's technology ministry to Twitter on June 5, informing them of the new IT law on May 26-28.

But, according to the letter, Twitter's response “does not respond to the clarifications requested by the ministry nor demonstrate compliance with the rules.”

India announced its latest IT law in February, which came into effect at the end of May. These regulations state that social media platforms are responsible in the event of a legal request.

India, through this regulation, requires platforms to create complaint-handling mechanisms and appoint leaders to coordinate with law enforcement.

Twitter, in a letter from the ministry, did not inform the government of the directorate that manages compliance with the rules, while the agents who handle complaints and the company's central contacts are not Twitter employees, as the law stipulates.

If it does not follow these rules, Twitter will face “unintended consequences” such as liability for content posted on the microblog.

India's technology ministry and Twitter have not responded to the findings.

Facebook protested India's latest regulations some time ago because once implemented, they could disrupt encryption. from start to finish who is on WhatsApp.
