Three artists exhibited photos and paintings in the hall of honor of the city hall at the invitation of the Mission Inde association which, among other things, supports street children and women.
What they have in common is having made several trips to India. Annie Sorel, photographer and writer, displays portraits of the people she meets. He left for the first time in 1974 for Rajasthan, while still a student, in a region still unknown to tourists. In 2024, he will make his fiftieth trip there.
“For me, this is a story about passion, about attachment,” he said. The more I go there, the more I discover. I have published seven books and 8 bookse is in preparation. And he concluded: “India is the country that takes you! “.
Régis David is a teacher in the family’s country house in Châteauneuf-sur-Isère. With about twenty of his students, he had the opportunity to travel to Tamil Nadu, in southern India, building relationships through contact with the rural world. He has since returned: “We quickly caught the virus from the wealth of contacts and exchanges,” he admits, looking at the photos he brought back.
“Discover an extraordinary country through my paintings”
The third exhibitor, Jean-Yves Frémaux, is a figurative painter recognized in the art world. During his travels in India, he painted scenes of everyday life, where the artist’s brush sublimated what no image could convey.
At the opening, Friday 15 September, he said:
“I invite you to discover this extraordinary country through my paintings.” Before encouraging viewers to take the journey: “Yeah, go there, it’s beautiful, the people are amazing.” He also painted three extraordinary paintings in Montélimar, which the president of Mission Inde, Catherine Loudet, hopes the city hall will acquire.
The President hopes that this exhibition can raise awareness of his actions and that sales of the works on display will help support solidarity actions. His next trip to India will be in October.
Exhibition until October 8. Friday 22 September at 18:30, informal conference on India, in the presence of three exhibitors. Tel: 06.82.34.02.58. https://missioninde.com
