Hosts Sri Lanka ‘A’ will open their campaign in match no. 1 of the 2023 Emerging Asian Cup against Bangladesh “A” team at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground in Colombo on Thursday. Sri Lanka selected a 16-member squad that includes several international players, and the Bangladesh board announced a 19-member squad with a mix of quality national and international players.

The Sri Lankan ‘A’ team will be led by fly-half Avishka Fernando and will include young pioneers like Dilshan Madhushanka and Matheesha Pathirana. The latter made his international debut for the ODI in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Pathirana was also part of MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team that won the IPL 2023 title earlier this year.

Madhushanka was impressive in the CWC 2023 qualifiers as well as last year’s Asian Cup 2022 in the United Arab Emirates, where she rocked India’s streak. Bangladesh ‘A’, meanwhile, will be managed by Mahmudul Hasan Joy and feature an all-rounder in Soumya Sarkar, who is looking to return to international cricket.
