Region – The Bavarian Minister of Health and Care, Klaus Holetschek, last week awarded two women from the region the Bavarian State Medal for Health and Care Services. The winners are Renate Dodell from Polling and Dr. Gabriele Fromberg from Murnau.

The minister stressed when presenting the award: “The medal should be an incentive for other people to make their own efforts. It also aims to encourage people to innovate in future topics of health and care.

In her laudatory speech, Holetschek recognized Dodell as a woman who was politically and socially engaged in various ways and who made a special contribution to palliative care in the Free State of Bavaria and the Federal Republic of Germany. From 1994 to 2013 she was a member of the Bavarian state parliament and campaigned at the political level for optimal care of seriously ill and dying people.

Since 2011, Dodell has been president of the Pfaffenwinkel hospice association in Polling, which has more than 1,200 members. In 2012, the Pfaffenwinkel hospices association also participated in the creation of the Palliahome association. The association’s caregivers relieve loved ones, support those affected and allow a painless death with dignity.

“It was thanks to Ms. Dodell’s commitment and organizational skills that Hospice Pfaffenwinkel was able to be expanded and renovated in 2013 and again in 2018. Additionally, the expansion to include a partially inpatient children’s hospice has been in the planning and implementation stages for five years,” said Holetschek.

As a surgeon at Interplast Germany, she has worked for more than 30 years to ensure that people in developing countries receive the operations they urgently need. She is chief physician for plastic surgery and hand surgery at the Penzberg Clinic and has a group practice for plastic surgery and hand surgery in Murnau, but travels to India, Africa, Afghanistan or in Nepal for two weeks every year, mainly to treat women and children. with serious burns, violent wounds, congenital malformations and accidental damages, underlined the minister in his laudatory speech.

Since 2007, Fromberg has been the surgical director of the surgical team, which consists of eight to ten experts from various medical fields, who cover numerous treatment methods and perform up to 200 operations on site. Fromberg also passes on his vast experience and knowledge at congresses on missions in developing countries and thus makes an important contribution to international exchanges. In addition, she has been a member of the Zonta Club Murnau-Staffelsee since 2011, which campaigns for equal rights for women worldwide.
