Menparekraf supports the implementation of the 18th Asian Media Summit in Bali
To promote Indonesian tourism to support economic recovery and job creation
Jakarta, May 23, 2023 – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf/Kabaparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno fully supports the implementation of the 18th Asian Media Summit (AMS) on 23 and May 24, 2023 in Bali.
Menparekraf Sandiaga, in his online remarks at the 18th session of the WHA 2023 Gala Dinner, Tuesday (23/5/2023), said that this event further strengthened the role of the media in supporting recovery economy and job creation. Moreover, previously, Indonesia was considered to have successfully assumed the responsibility of chairing the G-20 summit and chairing the ASEAN summit and a series of other world-class MICE events.
“The media plays an important role in promoting economic sustainability by presenting a variety of information related to policies and the latest economic situation. Thus, it is hoped that the 18th Asia Media Summit 2023 in Bali will further increase the contribution and support of the media in efforts to revive the global economy, particularly through the tourism and creative economy sectors,” said said Sandiaga.
As part of the success of the activity, Sandiaga revealed that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy provided 500 exclusive souvenirs to delegates at the meeting which was attended by around 300 delegates from various Asia-Pacific countries and other regions. Souvenirs came in the form of scarves and Balinese batik designs produced by selected local MSMEs.
Sandiaga said the souvenir includes a special message as a sign of friendship between Wonderful Indonesia and all media players in the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, in an effort to support the promotion of Indonesian tourism to international delegates, a Wonderful Indonesia promotional item was also published in the orientation program of the 18th AMS Bali 2023.
“I hope that this meeting can produce concrete action for the development of the media in the world, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. More than that, my special message is for all broadcasting institutions and the media in Indonesia to always play an active role in promoting Indonesian tourism in the international arena,” he said.

Previously, Vice President (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin was also present to open the 18th AMS Bali 2023 event at Grand Hyatt Ballroom, Nusa Dua Bali. On this occasion, Vice-President Ma’ruf Amin explained the importance for the media to continue to adapt to developments in information and communication technologies in order to strengthen their fundamental role as a communication bridge and information between the public and government to support economic development.
“I believe that changes will continue and that all parties must adapt to developments in information and communication technologies. For this reason, I urge all media to strengthen their fundamental role as a communication and information bridge between the public and the government in efforts to revive the economy in a sustainable and just way,” said the vice -President Ma’ruf Amin.
Also present were the Ministers of Communication and Information of friendly countries (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Myanmar, India, Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Samoa), the Secretary General of ASEAN, the Secretary General of UNESCAP, the Vice President of AIDB, the Senior Director of LPP TVRI and the Governor of Bali.
