Ishan Kishan achieved the fastest double century in ODI against Bangladesh.

Ishan Kishan completed the fastest double century in ODI – on just 126 balls – smashing Bangladesh’s attack alongside Virat Kohli to lead India 409-8 in game three of the series on Saturday.

Southpaw Kishan, who was part of the squad in the absence of injured captain Rohit Sharma, made full use of his chances in Chittagong. He made 210 of his shots on 131 balls, including 24 fours and 10 sixes.

The previous men’s ODI record was 138 balls by Chris Gayle, against Zimbabwe at the 2015 World Cup.

Kishan and Kohli, who made 113, hit 290 runs for second wicket – the seventh-highest partnership in ODI history.

India’s 409 points is the fourth highest score in ODI history and the team’s highest total ever against Bangladesh. The tourists looked for a consolation win, with the hosts winning the opening two matches to secure the series.

Kishan is only the fourth Indian batsman to score a double pitch in an ODI after Rohit – who did it thrice – Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

The Tourists lost Shikhar Dhawan for three rounds in the fifth inning after being asked to strike first, but Kishan fought back with a series of limits and took control of the inning with Kohli.

Kohli was brought down by captain Liton Das, who missed an easy hold in the middle of goal, and quickly found his groove but was happy to play second fiddle to striker Kishan anyway.

Kishan eventually bowed to a well-judged take from deep by Liton on Taskin Ahmed as he entered the court to a standing ovation.

Star batsman and former captain Kohli batted out Ebadot Hossain for six to record his first ODI century since August 2019 with 85 balls.

He tallied centuries in all three formats to 72, overtaking former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. Tendulkar remains the lead with 100 tonnes internationals in a glittering career that ended in 2013.

India lost wickets early, including defending captain KL Rahul for eight and Kohli within three balls, but Washington Sundar’s 37 got the visitors past 400.
