VISAKHAPATNAM: The factory department had given the company 70 recommendations Sahithi pharmaceutical company during the security audit that took place in March and April this year.
The fire at Sahithi Pharma on Friday killed two people and seriously injured four after an explosion in the reactor during solvent loading.
Sahithi Pharma has not submitted the compliance report to the factory department yet. Most of the recommendations would be implemented by companies in the first stage, which would be re-examined by the audit committee in the second stage. A final check would be carried out later, sources in the factory department said.
According to the chief inspector of Dy factories, SureshIn the preliminary investigation, they found that the generation of static electricity caused the fire disaster in the solvent loading and fire catching tanks. The final investigative report would be presented by a seven-member investigative committee headed by Joint Collector Anakapalli, who was tasked with investigating the fire accident by the higher authorities.
The committee includes the Joint Collector, the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), the Deputy Factory Inspector and officials from the Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Labour, policeand one expert member.
It is recalled that Prime Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered a security check on all industries in the state after a gas leak in one of the industries around Brandix in the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone in August last year. A GO No. 79 was issued by the state government for this purpose.
The safety audit for the 186 key hazardous industries in Anakapalli district has been completed and around 75% of the industries’ compliance reports have been met, factory inspector Chinna Rao said. As part of the security audit process, the departments concerned would make recommendations for companies to take security measures in various areas, he said.
However, workers Rameshwar, Nooka Naidu and Appa Rao, who were seriously injured in the accident, were admitted to a company hospital at the government hospital King George Hospital (KGH) in Port City on Saturday. The trio’s condition is said to be serious.
